Gregor Wreckor from Germany caught a oil fish with us Friday. Then last night he caught his first tarpon, a 100 lb beauty.
Today he hit a home run with a 40 pound amberjack and a scamp grouper on verticle jigs, 2 kingfish, a gray grouper and a giant 34 pound jack crevalle on the kite.
He was not finished. We put a double hooked spanish mackerel out while wreck fishing this afternoon. 5 minutes latter it was eaten and the fight was on. 1 hour 45 minutes latter he had fought a 400+ pound big eye thresher to the boat.
That is correct. I never saw one 50 years in the business and now we caught 2 big eye threshers and a 350 lb blue marlin in 5 days. THAT IS LUCK at it’s best.

Jack is 9 years old and a walking fish encyclopedia. This morning this Minneapolis native caught a 70 pound sailfish and 12 pound kingfish.
After this wore Jack out, his mom, Karen caught a 22 pound king and several bonito.

Last night we caught 2 tarpon, a mackerel and some ladyfish.
Today we were targeting sharks. We caught a 300 lb hammerhead shark on a 6 pound bonito.
We took last nights mackerel and hooked it behind the head on a pair of 10/0 hooks and 12 wire and suspended it below the kite.
We were fishing in 500 feet of wire and I stepped away from the wheel a minute and left Abie in command. 30 seconds later a blue marlin crashed that mackerel.
8 jumps, an hour later, some crazy surface runs and a lot of adrenalin latter Evan Metropolis had turned loose his 350 pound blue marlin.
Tonight we caught s tarpon, a nice grouper and another mackerel.

After 50 years of charter fishing, my fish bucket list was topped off today. It took almost 65 years of living for me to see a live thresher shark.
We caught this 250 pound, over 12 foot big eye thresher on the bottom in 490 feet of water. Our Penn 30 International full of InvisiBraid 80 worked great.

This morning Nicholas and his dad caught a dozen mahi, 4 bonito and a amberjack.
This evening Ron hooked our only tarpon bite at 8:45. At 10:15 we finally released his tarpon estimated at over 150 pounds. This is 2 monster tarpon in 2 nights. Tarpon do get bigger, but they don’t get any tougher than these 2.

Saturday evening we fished with Pace High School fishing club members Chrissy, Asad and Robert. They caught a 100 pound tarpon, 15 pound jack crevalle, mackerel, snapper and a gallon of shrimp.

This morning we set out to get a story about golden tilefish for Saltwater Sportsman with George Poveromo. In a couple hours George, Sue Cocking, Capt Harry Vernon and Karl Grassi had each caught their one fish limit of 8 to 10 pound tilefish.
Then this afternoon we took 3 generations of Alvarados fishing. Lou 77, Lou and Bobby 21 each caught their first sailfish. They ended up with 5 sailfish, a kingfish and 4 bonito in 4 hours.
The final score. Tonight we fished with brothers Chris and Craig Covalt. They each brought a daughter Heather and Kali. They caught 4 tarpon to 120 pounds, 2 mackerel and 6 ladyfish.

Today we fished with Jeff and his son Cody. They verticle jigged up 5 snow grouper, a yellow edge grouper, a 15 lb red snapper, a yellow eye snapper, a rudder fish and 6 almaco jack.
Surface live baits added a sailfish and a mahi. A couple wahoo escaped the hooks.
